Mental Health treatment does work!

The Psychological Center provides “best practices” in our traditional clinical approaches to treating Mental Health Disorders. We have the programs that help people respond to the stressors that they experience in the home, school, workplace, and society with prosocial, adaptive behavior. We provide evidence-based treatment and management practices that enhance our client’s ability to be safe, emotionally stable and healthy.

The treatment philosophy at The Psychological Center is multimodal. We serve clients from all walks of life who present with a wide range of issues. Problems occur for a multiplicity of reasons; we say that the problems of living are multifactorial. Therefore a multimodal approach is necessary for symptom relief and resolution. Through a Cognitive Behavioral – Motivational approach to treatment, our clients are introduced to a wide range of self-management skills, such as self-monitoring, problem solving strategies, relaxation training, relapse prevention, and harm reduction. Our clients are taught to identify internal and external triggers:  situational – people, places, things; cognitive – thinking errors; emotional – anger, low ego strength, grief, shame, loneliness and anxiety.

As part of our multimodal and holistic approach, all clients entering our programs participate in Comprehensive Assessment that allows our professional clinical staff to fully evaluate and assist our client in creating an individualized treatment plan. The Comprehensive Assessment may include: client and/or family interviews as indicated, standardized questionnaires and self-report measures, medical physical history and exams, and reports and consultation with outside providers as indicated. Comprehensive Assessments include empirical self-report measures such as the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, BASIS-24, and the CANS Assessment.

Our clients are involved in all aspects of the assessment and treatment planning process. In treatment planning, we consider our client’s vision for his or her own future, observable behavior, coping and problem solving skills, acquired learning and modeling, mental status, economic factors, social status, social support, peer group and family influences, physical ease or disease, and the ability to understand and take in stride the challenges of life. We help our clients to identify their strengths and use them to address their needs and develop more skills. Case Management services are part of all treatment modalities.

Some clients are referred by other agencies for Comprehensive Assessments and/or Substance Abuse Evaluations and our recommendations. The formal evaluation phase typically lasts from three to six sessions, and may take longer if indicated. Case consultation and collaboration are a highly valued part of the intake assessment and on-going clinical services. Assessment continues throughout the course of treatment, and is formalized in quarterly reviews created by you and your clinician.
