Structured Outpatient Addictions Program ("SOAP") serves adults in the community who require intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment. Appropriate candidates are those individuals who are diagnosed with a substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health disorder. Access to treatment is typically within a day ot two. Candidates are able to participate in a group setting and are medically and psychiatrically stable: Arrest history is not a barrier. The mission of the Lawrence SOAP is to aid the underserved population of Greater Lawrence in addiction recovery. Program Goals are to eliminate or reduce substance abuse through the use of client-appropriate psychological treatments, to assist participants in maintaining/improving sobriety by introducing harm reduction elements through cognitive skills training, to assist participants in improving quality of life by helping them to develop a community for themselves that will include life necessities, and to assist shelter participants in pursuing more supportive and permanent housing.

The Lawrence SOAP works in conjunction with Daybreak, a local shelter managed by The Psychological Center, to offer a housing option with a guaranteed bed at the shelter for homeless individuals in the program.

The clinical staff are committed to the provision of evidence-based treatment and provide Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the two major treatment modalities for the SOAP program: Both approaches meet the client at their own starting point. Participants receive a full day of services 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday which includes group and individual therapy which provides the framework for skill development in key areas including sobriety/harm reduction, emotional management and healthy living. Length of participation in the program is based on individual need.
