Treatment for Depression

THERE’S A SCIENCE TO FEELING GOOD!

Depression can occur when an unanticipated event happens like a sudden illness in the family or an anticipated loss happens. Depression can also come out of the blue for no apparent reason. Life events, disputes with friends or family, school problems, the low light months of fall and winter or things that are out of your control may all cause a depressive episode.

Some depression can be called mild or on the lower spectrum of moderate depression, and it may go away by itself. Higher end moderate depression and severe depression may require treatment. A major cause of depression is negative self-talk. Catastrophic messages that we say to ourselves can be the main cause of all kinds of depression. Our inheritance can also play a part. Some of us have the advantage of having inherited “happier genes.”

There’s still great hope that you can heighten your mood whether negative self-talk, your genes or a combination of the two are involved in a low mood state.

The Psychological Center has expertise in the professionally accepted treatment approach to depression called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. The right treatment for depression can be very helpful and can be combined at first with medication. Talk to your doctor or call us at 978-685-1337 for more information.
