TREATMENT FOR TRAUMA AND ABUSE.

Traumatic events can happen to anyone at any point in their life.  The normal response to a traumatic event is increased fear and anxiety, increased emotional arousal such as feeling jumpy, jittery, shaky, being easily startled, and having trouble sleeping or concentrating.  In an attempt to manage these increased uncomfortable feelings we may avoid situations that remind us of the event or we may try to numb ourselves with alcohol or other drugs.  Often we begin to think negatively about ourselves and our self -image and our view of the world changes. If you felt that you were a strong person and able to handle life, these new feelings, which are normal after a trauma, can make you question your beliefs about yourself.    Depression, feelings of shame and guilt are also common after a trauma.  Nightmares and flashbacks of the events can develop and then things feel out of control.

There is help!  There is evidenced based treatment for people who have experienced trauma and abuse that works.  You can get your life back and live without the fear, anxiety, shame or guilt that was your body’s normal response to an abnormal situation.

At The Psychological Center we have the professional expertise in the evidenced based treatment of trauma and abuse with kind and caring therapists.  Call us for more information at 978-685-1337.
